Pineland Fiddlers

Central Maine's Pineland Fiddlers Tour Shetland
with the generous help of the community!

The Pineland Fiddlers had an amazing trip to the Shetland Islands this July to attend the Shetland Folk Frenzy.

These young fiddlers played informally from an open mic to jam sessions, to the back of the bus.  The Pineland Fiddlers also appeared on stage, performing at the Big Gig and with some of Margaret Robertson's

Hjaltibonhoga musicians before they left for the Edinburgh Tattoo!

The Pineland Fiddlers went on to Edinburgh for sight-seeing and local jam sessions at the pubs.  It was truly the musical adventure of a lifetime!

Thank you to everyone who cheered us on, helped fundraise, and donated time, talent, or dollars!!

THE SHETLAND ISLANDS
The Shetland Islands are another community with fiddling and traditional tunes at its heart, and the tunes are so fun, with their own special flavor: quirky chords, fast pace, full of playfulness & joy.  Like many traditional tune genres, they reflect the landscape of the islands, with lots of jumping and bounce.  To read about the connection between Maine's Ellen Gawler & the Shetland Islands, go to  "Pineland Fiddlers to travel to Scotland in July"

IN THE PAST FEW YEARS...
The Pineland Fiddlers, led by Ellen Gawler, travelled to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in June 2015 for a fabulous musical and cultural learning adventure! Students attended workshops with local master fiddlers at the Celtic Interpretive Music Center and at the Gaelic College of Celtic Arts & Crafts . The Pineland Fiddlers also performed at cèilidhs from Glencoe to Mabu to Inverness. It was an amazing opportunity to visit & participate in a culture with fiddling in its heart and history.  Since then, the Pineland Fiddlers have performed at various venues in Maine, including for dances in Farmington & Bowdoinham, and Colby College's Service of Carols & Lights.
