More about the trip

Why Shetland?

Why Shetland?
The Shetland Islands are another community with fiddling and traditional tunes at its heart, and the tunes are so fun, with their own special flavor: quirky chords, fast pace, full of
playfulness & joy.  Like many traditional tune genres, they reflect the landscape of the islands, with lots of jumping and bounce.

More information about our trip coming soon!

IN THE PAST FEW YEARS...
The Pineland Fiddlers, led by Ellen Gawler, travelled to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in June 2015 for a fabulous musical and cultural learning adventure! Students attended workshops with local master fiddlers at the Celtic Interpretive Music Center and at the Gaelic College of Celtic Arts & Crafts . The Pineland Fiddlers also performed at cèilidhs from Glencoe to Mabu to Inverness. It was an amazing opportunity to visit & participate in a culture with fiddling in its heart and history.  Since then, the Pineland Fiddlers have performed at various venues in Maine, including for dances in Farmington & Bowdoinham, and Colby College's Service of Carols & Lights.
