Practicing

Students are required to practice their lesson assignments.  Daily practice is essential to continue advancing through the material taught.  Parents must accept responsibility to see that the week’s lessons are practiced.  We become our child’s teacher at home, so it works best if you take notes during the lesson, and ask questions if you do not understand.

There are lots of ways to make practicing more enjoyable and more effective.  One way is to use the review chart below.  It helps parents be sure that all pieces are being reviewed.

Another way to make practice more effective is to know which pieces will be the focus of group classes as musicians prepare for the Benefit Concert.  The list of pieces we anticipate playing together this year is available below.

If you have a favorite strategy or game that works for you and your children, please feel free to leave it in the comments below!  We'll be adding more ideas to this page throughout the year.
